Exactly 24 hours later, the UAE Foreign Minister arrived in New Delhi on a day’s visit. In a statement issued by the UAE, there was a hint about the talks about Pakistan. It said that Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed had discussed and exchanged views with the Foreign Minister of India S Jaishankar on all regional and international issues of mutual interest.
‘Ceasefire bus is only a start’
UAE officials, on the condition of anonymity, said that the agreement between India and Pakistan regarding the ceasefire was a milestone in the secretly ongoing negotiations. The talks are being held by the UAE arbitration. An official said that the ceasefire bus is only a beginning in the direction of peace between the two neighboring countries. These two neighboring countries are armed with nuclear weapons and often clash over territorial disputes.
The official said that the next step in this peace process would be that both countries send their ambassadors back to each other. Pakistan had recalled its ambassador in the year 2019 in protest against the abolition of special status of Kashmir. After this, Kashmir will be discussed between the two countries. However, officials still have little hope of any further success except for the return of the ambassadors and the resumption of trade talks.
