New Delhi
The Delhi High Court turned down Navneet Kalra’s request for anticipatory bail in the alleged black marketing of oxygen concentrators and agreed to the lower court’s reasons for not granting relief. The sessions court on Thursday rejected Kalra’s anticipatory bail plea, saying the charges against him were serious and he needed to be detained and questioned for “exposing the entire conspiracy”.

Justice Subramaniam Prasad, while prescribing the next hearing in the case on 18 May, said, “I agree with the reasons given by the lower court which is my valid basis for not granting any interim protection for the moment.”

The court’s remarks came after Kalra’s lawyers – senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vikas Pahwa – appealed to the court that on the appeal of Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, if the case is being adjourned till May 18, then some interim protection will be granted Go

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, who was arguing with the Delhi Police at the time of the hearing, questioned the hearing after the court hour for Navneet Kalra. He said, “Why is this man being given so much relief? The case was heard after the court hour at 7 pm yesterday … Today is Eid holiday … What is so special in anticipatory bail?”

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi objected to this. He said, “If this court listens after the court hour, it should be praised and not criticized.”
