Court summons Kangana Ranaut, Javed Akhtar has filed a complaint of defamation

A Mumbai court has issued summons to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut while hearing the defamation case of Javed Akhtar. The Mumbai Police has told the court in its investigation that this is a case of defamation and further investigation needs to be done. In December 2020, the Metropolitan Magistrate of Andheri directed the Juhu police to investigate Javed Akhtar on a defamation complaint.

Javed Akhtar had filed a complaint of defamation against Kangana Ranaut in November 2020. The police submitted their report to the court on Monday 1 February, saying that further investigation is needed in this case. After this, the magistrate has issued summons for Kangana Ranaut. Javed Akhtar’s lawyer Jai Kumar Bhardwaj told the court that the police had sent summons to Kangana Ranaut last month to inquire and record the statement but Kangana has not yet responded to it. The next hearing of the case will be on 1 March 2021.

Explain that Javed Akhtar alleged in his complaint that Kangana Ranaut had made objectionable statements about him during a TV interview. Kangana Ranaut, in an interview in June last year after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, accused Javed Akhtar of lynching in Bollywood.
