Newly-appointed Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal, met former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Anand Sharma and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar, among other opposition leaders, on Friday, ahead of the monsoon session beginning July 19.
Goel’s meetings with senior opposition leaders ahead of the Parliament session are being seen as an attempt by the government to seek cooperation from opposition parties. It is worth mentioning that Goel was recently appointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. He replaced Thaawarchand Gehlot. Gehlot was recently appointed as the Governor of Karnataka.
