The Bombay High Court has deferred hearing on the bail plea of Partha Dasgupta, former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), accused in the alleged fake scam of television rating point (TRP). On this petition, the High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing for 9 February. Dasgupta was arrested by the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch on December 24 last year in the TRP case. Dasgupta has requested in his bail application that all the other accused in the case are out on bail, so they should be granted bail in view of his health.
On Tuesday, Dasgupta’s lawyers Abad Ponda and Shardul Singh told the High Court that Dasgupta had a problem with the spine. Ponda said, “Dasgupta is not dead, but his health is at risk and he needs medical care.” During the hearing on the bail application, Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hire said that in this case he has been appointed as a lawyer on Monday, so he needs some time. He also said that a similar bail application of Dasgupta is pending in the Supreme Court.
Dasgupta’s attorneys supported Justice P.D. He told the Naik-led bench that he would not proceed with the application in the Supreme Court. On this, Justice Naik recorded the statement and adjourned the hearing of the case for 9 February. Dasgupta is accused of misusing his position and manipulating the TRP by colluding with ARG Outlier Media, the company that runs Republic TV, and Arnab Goswami, the editor-in-chief of this TV.
