Special Investigation Team (SIT) Uttar Pradesh has started investigation of about 400 madrasas in Azamgarh and Mirzapur. Of these, 250 madrasas are from Azamgarh. In both the districts, there were cases of financial irregularities and disturbances in madrasas.
The SIT will now conduct physical inspection of every madrasa operating in these two districts. Apart from this, verification of those studying and teaching in madrasas at police station level will be done. It will also be examined whether the teachers who are teaching in the madrasa had formalities of recruitment.
Revealed in RTI
It was revealed through an RTI application in Mirzapur that 14 madrasas were running irregularly and illegally. They neither have any buildings nor management, while the grant of crores of rupees was being given by the Central and State Government.
Honorarium was being taken from the government
Monthly honorarium was also being taken from the central and state government from eight to 15 thousand rupees by showing teachers on paper. In the year 2009-10, 143 madrasas were recognized under the centrally sponsored madrasa modernization scheme in Mirzapur.
Madrasas on portal only
The RTI had revealed that there are 14 madrasas whose names are registered in the portal, but they do not exist on the land. There is no claimant manager or managing committee of these madrasas. Similar malfunctions also emerged in the madrasas of Azamgarh.
