Why are African people living in Mohan Garden feeling scared, police in action mode after the attack on the police station

Police have arrested 53 people in connection with the attack on a police station following the death of a Nigerian man in west Delhi’s Mohan Garden. Three police personnel were also injured in the attack. The police also fired three-four rounds to disperse the crowd. After the police action, there is an atmosphere of fear among the African people living in Mohan Garden. Police say that action has been initiated against African citizens living in and around Mohan Garden in West Delhi.

Action against people living illegally
A police officer said that we are taking action against people living illegally. This year, we have arrested around 75 people living here without valid papers. They are angry on that issue as well. A door-to-door survey was conducted in April to identify people living illegally in the country. The people of the African community living in the Mohan Garden area are living in panic. The police action has made him so restless that neither he, nor the local people want to say anything.

Locals say they have no problem with Africans. Those people pay them more and are usually generous in spending their money. But the police are tasked with identifying those who are living illegally and look at them with suspicion which creates tension.

Accused of death due to police chase
Earlier, according to police, the protesters were mostly Nigerians and people from Ghana and Ivory Coast. These men had alleged that the victim had died of a fall while being chased by the police. Senior police officials denied this. The dying African ran a small shop selling goods. Police said he fainted at the shop and was brought to the hospital by his friends.

Chinoso used to live in P block of Mohan Garden
The deceased Chinoso (33) lived on the second floor of a building in P Block Extension of Mohan Garden. A family living here said on condition of anonymity that we did not face any problem because of them. One of them lived on the second floor and the other on the fourth floor. The people did not say anything to anyone.

An African national who lives in the same building said that since he was alone here, he was on his way to his friend’s house. He told that the policemen came to the building even today and asked me questions. The young man from Ivory Coast told that I told him that I am a student. But it’s too scary to be here right now. When asked if he knew what happened to Chinoso. He said that he did not know much but we were told that he was on his way back when some policemen chased him and he collapsed and died.
