The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday slammed the Congress government for repeatedly shutting down internet services in Rajasthan during crucial examinations, alleging that it resorted to internet shutdown to evade its responsibility towards law and order. The route has been chosen and for this she cites the question paper leak. Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore referred to a 2019 tweet by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and accused him of adopting double standards on freedom of expression.
In that tweet, Rahul Gandhi criticized the central government for shutting down internet service in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Terrorist incidents are happening in Jammu and Kashmir… Congress is such a party which considers the threat of examination of the youth above the threat of terror. So she shuts down the internet.
He said that to check question paper leaks and theft, the Rajasthan government has stopped internet service four times in the last one month.
“In the last 10 years, internet services have been suspended 29 times in Uttar Pradesh, 17 times in Haryana, 13 times in West Bengal, 10 times in Gujarat and 11 each in Bihar and Maharashtra, while in Rajasthan during this period,” he said. This has happened 78 times.
Rathore claimed that Rajasthan has suffered a loss of Rs 800 crore due to the shutdown of internet services as it affects business and other services as well.
The BJP spokesperson said that the Rajasthan government does not have time to focus on law and order as the ministers of Rajasthan have been engaged in electoral work.
He said, “Some ministers of Rajasthan who have been given different responsibilities are not coming to their office for many days. The Health Minister is not participating in important health-related meetings. The people of Rajasthan are facing a lot of problems due to their internal tussle.
