Only those devotees will be allowed to go to Pakistan who have got both the doses of Kovid vaccine. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had tweeted that the decision to resume the movement of devotees through the corridor leading to Kartarpur Sahib in Narowal, Pakistan is a great tribute to the Modi government towards Sri Guru Nanak Dev-ji and our Sikh community. Home Minister Shah also said that the nation is preparing to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s Prakash Utsav on November 19 and he is confident that the move will add to the joy and enthusiasm across the country. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi welcomed the Centre’s decision and said the state cabinet would be part of the batch that would visit the gurdwara in Pakistan on November 18. In view of Corona, the conditions of the Kovid Protocol will have to be fulfilled for the journey of Kartarpur Corridor.
The 4.5 km long corridor connects the Dera Baba Nanak Temple in Gurdaspur in Punjab with Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, a small town in Pakistan’s Punjab province, about 4 km from the international border. This is the place where Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, spent the last 18 years of his life.
On Tuesday, Home Minister Amit Shah had announced that the Kartarpur Sahib corridor would be reopened from Wednesday. The central government has given gifts to Sikh devotees ahead of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 19. The Kartarpur Corridor, which opened in November 2019, was closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic.
