- Baby falls to the head after falling down from balcony on 8 January
- Parents take big step in Gangaram Hospital after being declared brain dead
- Five people donated from child’s heart, liver, both kidneys, both corneas
- Organ donation rate is very low in the country, doctors are constantly appealing for donations
‘This decision was very difficult … but we thought that with the last rites of the girl, the life expectancy of those who are waiting for the organ will also be reduced, their hopes of life with the girl will also end. So we decided to donate our innocent baby’s organ by placing stones on our hearts. Now our baby girl is no more, but there is a belief in her mind that she is anywhere but still. These are the words of the parents of 20-month-old Dhanishta, who donated her baby girl and gave new life to three people, brightened the lives of two people and Dhanishna became the youngest cadaver donor in the country. Earlier, the two and a half year old child of Surat was the youngest cadaver donor.
The girl was hurt on 8 January
Ashish Kumar, father of Dhanishtha, a Rohini resident, told that there is a January 8 incident. The child fell down from the balcony of the first floor. He had a head injury, but not a single drop of blood came out. There was no injury to the rest of his body. We took him to Ambedkar Hospital, where the doctor did his CPR, gave oxygen and treated the rest. Later said to take it to higher center. We reached the Sir Gangaram Hospital with the girl. The doctor said that the condition of the girl was critical, there was bleeding inside her head, due to which her brain was not working.
‘People in the hospital feel pain for organ’
Ashish told that when he and Dhanishtha’s mother were in the hospital, they saw people yearning for Organ, they felt pain in their eyes. We had never thought of or paid attention to organ donation before. But, while in the hospital, it was known how important organ donation is. Meanwhile, we saw a parent whose child was born without a kidney. Meanwhile, on January 11, the doctor told us that our piety is brain dead, now she will never wake up. It seemed that our world had become desolate.
‘If we don’t have a life, then we should give life to someone’
He said that since then we have been counseled for organ donation in the hospital. We had already seen people’s pain. My wife and I talked to each other, we thought that when we take our baby girl from here, the organs will be finished along with her funeral. But if the people who need the organ do not get it, then in a way their life will also end with it. So, without any doubt, we decided to have an organ donation. Dhanishta was his younger daughter, the couple also has a 5-year-old son. He said that now both of us have also decided to register ourselves for organ donation, so that if we do not live, we should give life to someone.
Commendation on the decision of parents
Sir Gangaram Hospital Administration said that the baby’s heart, liver, both kidneys and two corneas were donated. Heart transplant was performed in a child at Apollo Hospital. While transplanted into a child at Liver ILBS Hospital. At the same time, both the kidneys of Dhanishtha were placed in an adult in Ganga Ram Hospital. Since the kidney size of the child was low, both kidneys were combined and placed in an adult. This gave new life to three people. At the same time, the eyes of two people will get new light from the cornea of the girl child and their life will also be transformed. The doctor said that removing the organ from the body of such a young girl and transplanting it to another was also a challenge, but the decision taken by the family is highly appreciated.
‘On average 5 lakh Indians die every year due to lack of organ donation’
Dr. DS, Chairman of Sir Gangaram Hospital. Rana said that this noble deed of this girl’s family is truly praiseworthy and all people should take inspiration from it. The rate of organ donation in India at just 0.26 per million is the lowest in the world. An average of five lakh Indians die each year due to lack of organ donation.
