After Adar Poonawala, now his father and chairman of the Poonawala Group, Cyrus Poonawala has also reached London. Adar’s family has been in London since last month. Serum Institute of India (SII), a company producing the Covid-19vaccine in India, is part of the Poonawala Group.
Cyrus Poonawala, in a conversation with The Indian Express, denied that he had ‘left the country’. He told the newspaper in a phone conversation that he has gone to London to spend ‘summer holidays’ in the month of May, this time like every year.
Senior Poonawalla categorically denied his or son’s ‘leaving the country at the time of this crisis’, saying that this was ‘false and malicious’. He said, “As far as I remember, I go out of India every year in the month of May. I want to spend a summer vacation, there is nothing new in this.”
When Adar was young, I used to come to the UK with him. His children are now studying abroad and this is a routine visit, he often comes here. As far as we are concerned, it is holiday time. In fact, almost every year in the first week of June I am in England to join the derby.

Poonawala had claimed to get threats in London
Adar Poonawala is the CEO of SII. In India, 90% of the Covid-19vaccines have been supplied by the Serum Institute. More than a month has passed for Junior Poonawala to London. In some interviews, he had complained to leaders and ‘powerful people’ about ‘threats’ for early delivery of Kovid vaccine. Adar has also said that he was unnecessarily maligned.
In a statement issued from London itself on 3 May, Adar Poonawala said that it is not possible to increase the production of ‘overnight’ vaccine. Poonawala said that his company is making ‘every effort’ to increase production capacity.

Father said, routine is a trip to London
Adar Poonawala was banned from India just after the time he left for the UK. After this, many claiming to get threats did not embrace many. In a tweet on 1 May, Adar Poonawalla hinted that he would not stay longer in London and was thinking of returning to India ‘in a few days’.
Now his father has also reached London. The Indian Express writes that Adar Poonawala did not respond to any email or text message. Cyrus Poonawalla describes his family’s visit to London as ‘routine’.
