The CBI has arrested Surendra Bhadauria, Additional Director in the Education Department of South MCD, in connection with the bribe taking case. The CBI caught him red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. It is alleged that Bhadauria had offered Rs 20 lakh to reinstate an MCD teacher suspended in a corruption case.
According to MCD sources, Rs 500 is given as scholarship to poor children studying in MCD schools. At present, the Delhi government sends this money directly to the children’s account. But, there was no such provision from 2012-13 to 2015-16. Then, the Delhi government used to send the scholarship money to the MCD’s account earlier. The account branch of MCD used to transfer money to the account of the zonal office. The money was sent to the schools from the zonal office and the children used to get it from here.
During that time, the money which was sent to the Central Zone account for the scholarship, the officials, in connivance with it, transferred it to a fake bank account and ransacked it. In the same case, a teacher of Central Zone has been suspended for a long time. It is said that the teacher had requested the Additional Director for reinstatement. In lieu of this, additional director Bhadauria had offered him Rs 20 lakh. The CBI arrested him on Thursday evening, giving Rs 2 lakh as advance.
