In Amritsar, Punjab, a group of farmers staged a sit-in on the railway tracks against the new agriculture laws of the central government ended their agitation on Thursday after 169 days. The farmers said that they and traders were suffering a lot due to the postponement of the trains, due to which they have ended their agitation.
‘Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ leader Savinder Singh said that he decided to end the rail jam at Devidaspura on Amritsar-Delhi route after meeting with all the protesting farmer organizations. Devidaspura, near Jandiala station, is about 25 km from Amritsar railway station. He said, “The farmers were only stopping the passenger trains, but the Center decided to stop the goods trains also, which caused a lot of damage to the farmers, businessmen and industrialists.”

He said that under the present circumstances, the farmers unanimously decided to end the agitation here. Officials said that the normal movement of trains will be started in a few days with the farmers ending the agitation here.
