AR Rahman clarified on ‘Hindi protest’, said – it was only a joke

Oscar-winning world-renowned music composer AR Rahman got into controversy a few days ago when he protested against the Hindi speaking of the anchor on stage. The incident took place during the promotional event of Rahman’s film ’99 Songs’. When Rahman’s opposition to Hindi became an issue, he has now clarified that it was only a joke and should not be taken seriously.

Anchor did Welcome in Hindi and Rahman did ‘Tanj’
The film’s lead actors Ehan Bhatt and AR Rahman were both present at the event. Anchor welcomed Rahman in Tamil but welcomed Aihan by speaking Hindi. At this, Rahman said like a sting on the anchor, ‘Hindi?’ And after that he got off the stage and told the anchor, ‘Didn’t I already ask you whether you will speak in Tamil or not’. Anchor, however, gave his clarification saying in Tamil that he only spoke Hindi to please Ehan. After this Rehman laughed and said, “Hey, I was only joking.” Watch this video:

Now AR Rahman said in an interview to ‘Bollywood Hungama’, ‘Actually it happened that we were launching music in three languages. Hindi was already launched and it was the launch of Tamil language. So there are some rules of the stage. We were talking to the Tamil audience who were already questioning Ahaan’s complexion that he is too much white. So I asked the actor to speak only in Tamil.

‘People made a point’
Rahman further said, ‘I think the anchor spoke Hindi to please Ehan as he understands Hindi better. That’s why I said- ‘Hindi?’ And I left the stage. After this, other people came on stage. People made a point of this, which made me angry. It was only a joke. There was no need to take it to Sirius. I think this saved us a lot of money because the video of this program went viral. My face and Ehan’s face came in front of people.

Let me tell you that ’99 Songs’ produced by Rahman has been directed by Vishvesh Krishnamurthy. In this, American actress Edisley Verges will be seen in the lead role along with Ehan Bhatt. The film will be released in theaters on April 16, 2021.
