The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has constructed the world’s highest motorable road at an altitude of 19,300 feet at the Umlingala Pass in eastern Ladakh. The Ministry of Defense gave this information on Wednesday.
The BRO has constructed a 52-km-long road at the Umlingala Pass, the ministry statement said. This road has broken the record of the road built at an altitude of 8,953 feet in Bolivia.
This road of Umlingala Pass connects important cities of Chumar sector of Eastern Ladakh, the statement said. This will prove to be a boon for the local population as it is a direct alternative route from Leh connecting Chisumle and Demchok. This will improve their socio-economic condition and promote tourism.
