CBI has arrested two Army constables for alleged bribery in recruitment of Multitasking Staff (MTS) in the force. Officials gave this information on Wednesday. Officials said the CBI in a joint operation with the Army on Tuesday night arrested the constables who had allegedly demanded money from the selected candidates saying that their papers were incomplete.
He said that it is alleged that the accused posted in the Ordnance Depot used to call the selected candidates for MTS and threatened that their appointment would be canceled due to non-completion of their papers. Officials said that in this way they used to extort money from them by promising to send appointment letters. This action took place after receiving a tip-off to the Southern Command of the Army in Pune.
Officials said that in continuation of its zero-tolerance policy of corrupt practices, the Army has initiated a joint investigation with the CBI into possible misconduct by lower level employees. “The army has strict rules to deal with such malpractices and speedy investigations are being conducted to ensure punitive action is taken against the guilty,” an official said.
