The matter related to promotion as an IAS of an officer came before CAT. Kat had asked UPSC to consider the promotion. The Orissa High Court upheld Kat’s decision. Then the matter came before the Supreme Court.

A bench headed by Justice Chandrachud said that he is plagued with copy-paste in the High Court order in the case. Copy-paste is a big problem in the computer age. The apex court said that the order should have an independent view. When an order is passed, it must exercise independent discretion.

Just cut, copy, paste from the order of the tribunal, by Justice Chandrachud, only increases the pages. In such a case, the core issue which is in the appeal cannot be answered. The UPSC had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court. The High Court upheld Kat’s order.
