NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr VK Paul said on Friday that the next 100-125 days are crucial in the fight against COVID-19. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a target to stop the third wave of the pandemic and it is possible.

Dr VK Paul said that the world is moving towards the third wave of COVID-19 and even the Prime Minister has mentioned this and said that it is a warning that nothing can be taken lightly .

PM gave target to stop third wave
“Except for the North and South American regions, the areas under the World Health Organization (WHO) are moving from bad to worse,” Paul said. The world is heading towards the third wave and it is a fact. Prime Minister Modi has also asked us to take it as a threat and a warning. The Prime Minister has given us a target to stop the third wave and it is possible.

‘Next 100-125 days are going to be crucial’
NITI Aayog Member (Health) said that Spain has seen a 64 percent increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the week, while the Netherlands has seen a 300 percent increase. Paul said, “If you look at Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand… things were fine in Thailand, (but) it (cases) has increased. If you look at the figures in Africa, the cases have increased by 50 percent. ”He said that the next 100-125 days are going to be critical.

What did the government say on herd immunity?
Paul said that even now a large population is facing the risk of infection. “The question of third wave keeps coming up time and again. This is because our population is still at risk. We have not yet reached the level of ‘herd immunity’ nor have we reached the stage of infection. We do not want to acquire ‘herd immunity’ through infection.

Virus still present around us
Paul made it clear that we are making progress in vaccines and that almost 50 percent of our most vulnerable group, over the age of 45, are protected. This will also affect and reduce the mortality rate, but the infection can spread. We are vulnerable, the virus is still around.
