The Kerala High Court questions the Center on the gap of 84 days between the two doses of Kovishield. The court asked whether this gap was based on the availability of the vaccine or on its efficacy. By filing an application in the court, ‘Kitex Garments Limited’ had sought approval to give the second dose of Kovishield vaccine to its employees.
The judge also said that he was “concerned” if the reason for the lag was related to the vaccine being effective, as he was given the second dose within 4-6 weeks of the first dose. The court said that if the reason for the lag is availability, then those who are able to buy it, such as Kitex, should be allowed to take a second dose without waiting for 84 days in line with the existing protocol.
The court said that if the effect is the cause, then scientific data should also be given in support of it. The counsel for the Center sought time till August 26 to take the directions. Kitex has said in the application that it has given the first dose of the vaccine to more than 5,000 of its workers and has arranged for the second dose, but due to the current restrictions, it is not able to get the vaccination.
