Cyclonic storm Gulab hit the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday night. After the storm hit, there were high waves in the sea and there was heavy rain in many areas. During this, two fishermen from Andhra Pradesh died due to the storm. At the same time, about 39000 people have been evacuated in Odisha and shifted to safer places. It is being told that today and tomorrow the after effect of this storm can be seen on Mumbai, the financial capital of the country.
Two fishermen killed in Andhra Pradesh
Two fishermen, hailing from Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, were killed in the ‘Rose’ storm that hit the Bay of Bengal on Sunday evening, while one is still missing. At the same time, three other fishermen have safely returned to the shore. Joint Collector Sumit Kumar said, “The district administration has opened about 61 relief centers and 1100 people have been kept in these centres.”
Cyclonic storm ‘Gulaab’ weakens
The Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar said late night that ‘Cyclone Gulab’ crossed 20 km north of Kalingapatnam (in Andhra Pradesh). According to the Meteorological Department, ‘Cyclone ‘Gulaab’ entered Odisha’s Koraput district around midnight and after 6 hours i.e. till Monday morning, it has weakened into a low pressure area. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati districts of Odisha and the wind speed will be 50 to 70 kmph.
39000 people evacuated to safer places in Odisha
Odisha SRC PK Jena said that due to Cyclone Gulab, rain may increase tonight in Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput districts of Odisha. A total of 39000 people have been evacuated so far. At the same time, the Odisha Meteorological Department had said, ‘Cyclone Gulab Kalingapatnam has crossed from the north and was centered over North Andhra Pradesh at 8:30 pm. Cyclone Gulab is very likely to weaken into a Deep Depression in the next 6 hours.
Mumbai will be affected for two days
Mahesh Palawat, the principal scientist of a private organization that assesses the weather, said that the effect of the Gulab cyclone will be seen in Mumbai from September 26. There will be light rain on Sunday but there will be torrential rains in many areas of Mumbai on Monday and Tuesday. On September 27 and 28, there will be heavy rain with wind in Mumbai.
Most affected by these areas
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of becoming a storm in Mumbai and Maharashtra in the next 12 hours. Therefore, there is a possibility of torrential rains over Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. Its effect will be visible in Konkan and Mumbai. The intensity of rain will remain from September 26 to September 29.
