Delhi Police claimed to have busted the search engine optimization scam by arresting five persons. In this scam, more than 10 thousand people across the country were duped about 25 crores through more than 60 fake shopping websites. The accused have been identified as Vijay Arora, residents of Paschim Vihar, Manmin Singh and Avtar Singh of Nilothi Extension, Rajkumar of Bijwasan and Pradeep Kumar of Ranibagh. Police said that Vijay Arora is the mastermind among the arrested accused. All these accused used to sell electronic gadgets, branded clothes and other expensive products at low prices.
According to the police, he received several complaints and the victims alleged that they booked the tablet on www.bookmytab.com by making an advance payment of Rs 3699 or Rs 3999 but they never got the product. A senior police officer said that the police searched the website and found that it was being used to dupe people on a large scale and several complaints were also found online.

DCP Ayesh Roy said that during the investigation, the whereabouts of the accused were kept under surveillance. The hideout of the main accused Arora was raided and a lot of goods including substandard products were recovered from his office. Manmeet, Rajkumar, Pradeep Kumar and Avtar Singh were also arrested after questioning Vijay. During interrogation it was revealed that Vijay Arora is the mastermind.

DCP said that Pradeep helps to show fake website at the top during search through SEO. Whatever items are trending in the market, the website is used to sell them cheaply. Apart from this, Pradeep used to bring him to the top of the search with the help of very high-tech search engine optimization. When anyone used to search on Google or other browser to buy goods, their own fake website was visible at the top. People used to fall easily into his trap.

The DCP said that the accused cheated people by creating more than 60 fake websites during the last three years. Recently, Pradeep made about 30 websites and gave them to Vijay. Pradeep told that he used to get 250 rupees for every booking on the website. If 100 people booked goods in a day, Pradeep would get Rs 25,000 directly.
