This study, published in JAMA Network Open, reported that this research was done by 12 clinics on more than 2 thousand pregnant women. Between the 8th and 13th weeks of pregnancy of these women, some blood samples were taken, which specifically analyzed caffeine and paxanthin.
Research found that after drinking caffeine, a certain type of compound was found in the woman’s body, which is produced when caffeine breaks down. This compound inhibits the development of the child.
The study found that infants who were born without caffeine or with minimal blood levels were heavier than 84 grams at birth and 0.44 centimeters longer. His head circumference was also 0.28 centimeters large. Whereas women who consumed 50 mg of caffeine daily during pregnancy. Their babies were 66 grams lighter than other babies. Apart from this, the size of their thyz was 0.32 centimeters.
Why is caffeine harmful
Caffeine works by constricting the blood vessels in the uterus and placenta which may reduce the blood supply to the fetus. Also it can inhibit the development of the child. Researchers also found that caffeine could potentially inhibit the fetal stress hormones, causing fear of post-birth obesity in infants, heart disease, and diabetes.
