FASTag (FASTAG) will be mandatory at the toll plazas across the country from 12 pm tonight. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a notification on Sunday. After 12 o’clock tonight, all the vehicles which have not been put on FASTag or which are not working even after this tag has been imposed, may have to pay heavy fine.

Explain that in case of not having FASTag, customers may have to pay double the amount charged for the vehicle category.

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that the timeframe for making Fastag mandatory will not be extended. Earlier, NHAI announced the closure of cash toll collection from January 1, the deadline was later extended.

All records were broken on 24 December

Earlier, on December 24 last year, there was a bumper transaction of FASTag across the country. It was reported by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that this was the first time under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program, when a nationwide toll collection of more than Rs 80 crore from FASTag was done in a single day. On 24 December 2020, more than 50 lakh FASTag transactions were done in just one day.

Corona has increased contact less transactions

So far, over 2.20 crore FASTag has been allocated across the country. At the same time, the use of contact less transactions has increased rapidly throughout the country.

No third party insurance if not FASTag

Earlier in the month of December last year, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had said that vehicles, which would not have FASTag, would not be given third party insurance. At that time it was told by the Ministry that this system would come into force from April 2021.
