North East District Police has arrested the brother-in-law of notorious gangster Hashim Baba with illegal weapons. It has been identified as Shanu alias Mahtab (23), a resident of Janta Colony, Welcome. A pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from it. There are already five cases registered against this. He was declared a fugitive in a case of Arms Act.
DCP (North East) Sanjay Kumar Sain said that on November 15, the Anti-Snatching and Robbery Cell received information about the arrival of a wanted criminal in Jaffrabad area. A boy was seen leaving the street at around 7:20 pm near the Babul-Uloom Madrasa located on the Jaffrabad Main Road. He came close to the madrasa and waited for someone, but no one came to meet him. The police team caught him, on search of which the illegal weapon was recovered. The accused was arrested after registering a case of Arms Act at Jafrabad police station.

During interrogation, Sanu told that he has been declared a fugitive in a case of Arms Act registered at the Welcome Police Station. His sister is married to gangster Hashim Baba. He also joined the gang to spread terror in the area. He is fifth pass and drives auto. On February 1 this year, the Welcome Police Station had tried to nab four miscreants who were roaming around in a car with weapons, out of which two were nabbed and two, including Shanu, managed to escape while firing. He was declared a fugitive in the same case. Hashim Baba is currently in jail under MCOCA.
