Gangster Ankit Gurjar death: Gangster Ankit Gurjar murdered in Tihar Jail, suspected of losing his life in a fight between prisoners, two other prisoners in the cell injured

Notorious gangster Ankit Gurjar, lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has died. He had several criminal cases registered against him including murder. 29-year-old Ankit Gurjar was found dead in his cell on Wednesday morning. Along with him, two other prisoners lodged in this jail cell were found injured. The police suspect that Ankit Gurjar died in a mutual quarrel. Officials said that the deceased Ankit Gurjar was involved in several criminal cases. The injured prisoner Gurjit Singh (22) and his brother Gurpreet have been taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital here.

Police said that investigation is on to get the exact details of the incident. Director General (Delhi Prisons) Sandeep Goel said that Gurjar was found dead in his cell in Tihar’s Central Jail No. He said he was involved in several criminal cases including murder and robbery.

According to jail officials, Gurjar had come to jail several times. Now he had been in jail for almost a year. A senior police officer said, “We got a call about the death of prisoner Ankit Gurjar at around 9.15 am. He was a resident of Khela village of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. In 2019, he was arrested in a murder case registered at Saket police station. He was earlier found involved in 18 cases.

The officer said that when the police team reached the spot, Gurjar was found dead and two of his fellow prisoners lodged in the cell were found injured. The injured were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

West Delhi Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Prashant Gautam said, “Proceedings of investigation are being conducted by the Metropolitan Magistrate in the matter. Action will be taken on the basis of investigation report and post-mortem report of Gurjar.

The injured prisoner Gurpreet, a resident of Dakshin Puri here, was arrested in 2018 along with his brother Gurjit in a murder case, police said. Gurpreet is involved in five criminal cases. While his brother is involved in three cases.
