An application has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding a strict law to control hate speech. In the application, BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay has sought a direction to the Center to examine effective international laws to prevent hate speech and come up with effective legislation.
In the application filed in the Supreme Court, it has been said that the Center should be directed to implement the recommendations of the Law Commission to stop rumors and hate speech. The petitioner has made the Home Ministry, Law Ministry and Law Commission of the Government of India as respondents in the case.
The petitioner has said in the application that the Center should be asked to examine the international law in the hate speech case and to protect the right to life of the people and to establish the rule of law, hate speech should be controlled. Also said that the Law Commission had recommended in the 267th report to control hate speech, which should be implemented.
