A man from Jharkhand donated gold jewelery worth Rs 17 lakh as per his wife’s last wish at the world famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. An official of the temple administration gave this information on Tuesday. Temple administrator Ganesh Kumar told that a woman named Rashmi Prabha had passed away some time ago. She was a devotee of Lord Mahakal and used to come here regularly. After a prolonged illness, Rashmi had expressed her wish before her death that her jewelery should be offered to the Lord in the temple.
Rashmi’s family lives in Bokaro, Jharkhand. On Saturday, her husband Sanjeev Kumar and her mother donated Rashmi’s jewelry to the temple. These include necklaces, bangles and earrings. The total weight of the ornaments is 310 grams which cost around Rs 17 lakhs.
Last week, the temple management had informed that a total of Rs 23.03 crore was received from entry tickets, donation boxes, booking for Bhasma aarti and sale of laddu prasad during the three-and-a-half month period from June 28 to October 15 this year. The Mahakaleshwar temple has been reopened for devotees from June 28 after being closed for more than two and a half months due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva located across the country in Ujjain.
