Digital Desk, Tel Aviv. Israel has begun a national exercise to examine the country’s preparedness for a possible outbreak of a new and more deadly coronavirus variant. The Omega drill, led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, consists of three sessions, simulating the passage of time after a potential outbreak, Xinhua news agency reported.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the aim of the drill is to test the capabilities of government offices, national emergencies and health systems to respond to the emergence of the COVID variant. The office said no such variant has yet been detected in Israel.
The exercise is being run by the National Center for Management in Jerusalem, designed to manage crises nationwide with the participation of general directors from government ministries, representatives of professional health and emergency agencies, national coronavirus project managers, directors of the public health service, Parliament’s Constitution , chairman of the Law and Justice Committee, the National Security Council and the Israeli military. Israel needs to be prepared, Bennett told a situation assessment meeting at the National Management Center.
