Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be the new Chief Minister of the state. Bommai will take oath as the chief minister on Wednesday. The BJP Legislature Party met late Tuesday evening. In the meeting, Union Minister G. Bommai’s name was formally announced by Kishan Reddy and Dharmendra Pradhan. Known for his impeccable image, Basavaraj Bommai is close and loyal to former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. Yediyurappa had proposed his name in the meeting.

Basavaraj Bommai, a Lingayat leader from northern Karnataka, is the son of former chief minister late SR Bommai. Bommai was till now holding the portfolios of Home, Law, Parliamentary and Legislative Affairs in the Yeddyurappa-led government. After the BJP Legislature Party meeting, Central Observer Dharmendra Pradhan said that senior leader BS Yediyurappa proposed the name of the new leader and it was approved by Govind Karjol, R Ashok, KS Eshwarappa, B Sriramulu, ST Somashekar, Poornima Srinivas. And the newly elected leader of the party and the new Chief Minister will be Basavaraj Bommai. Soon after the announcement, Bommai sought Yeddyurappa’s blessings and other party leaders congratulated him.

Bommai will take oath alone at 11 am on Wednesday
Newly elected BJP Legislature Party leader in Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said that Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has invited him to form the government. He will take oath as Chief Minister on July 28 at 11 am. Bommai said that I have informed the governor about my election as the leader of the legislature party. According to the Governor’s office, the swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Glass House of the Raj Bhavan. Bommai also said that he would take oath alone on Wednesday. Soon after he was elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Bommai went to the Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the government with caretaker Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

Basavaraj Bommai full name is Basavaraj Somappa Bommai and he was born on 28 January 1960. Bommai is a skilled politician and engineer. He will be the current and 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka. Bommai has been elected thrice to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Shiggaon since 2008. Bommai was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council between 1998 and 2008. Basavaraj Bommai was earlier the Minister of State for Home, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and the Karnataka Legislature in Yeddyurappa’s fourth ministry. He also served as the minister in charge of Haveri and Udupi district.

Started political life with Janata Dal
Basavaraj Bommai previously served as Minister of Water Resources and Cooperation from 2008 to 2013. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Karnataka SR Bommai. A graduate in mechanical engineering, he started his political career with the Janata Dal.

in 2008 hold BJP’s Daman
Basavaraj Bommai was elected as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council twice (in 1998 and 2004) from the Dharwad Local Authority constituency. He left the Janata Dal (United) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in February 2008. In the 2008 Karnataka state elections, he was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Shiggaon constituency in Haveri district. He has been elected as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka after BS Yediyurappa resigned from the post.

Bommai is an engineering graduate
Basavaraj Bommai is a graduate engineer and a farmer and industrialist by profession. He is praised for his contribution to irrigation schemes and irrigation matters in Karnataka. He is also credited with implementing India’s first 100% pipe irrigation project at Shiggaon in Haveri district of Karnataka.
