Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) took out a padyatra in the university campus demanding a high-level inquiry into the death of a youth in police custody in Kasganj. In Kasganj, a youth named Altaf died in police custody. The police had called it a case of suicide. The postmortem report stated the cause of death as hanging.
AMU sources said that the students took out a march from Duck Point to Baba Sir Syed Gate on the AMU campus to demand a high-level inquiry into the death of a youth in police custody in Kasganj and handed over a memorandum addressed to the President to the district administration. . In the memorandum, there has been a demand for a time-bound inquiry by a serving judge of the High Court in the Kasganj case.
In the memorandum, a demand has been made to take action against the guilty policemen in this case and to give an assistance of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased. Apart from this, a demand has also been made to give a government job to one of the relatives of the deceased.
In Kasganj district on Tuesday, 22 youths named Altaf died in police custody under suspicious circumstances. Five policemen have been suspended in this case. The opposition has surrounded the government regarding this issue.
