Kisan Andolan: Farmer leaders change movement strategy, now mahapanchayat not focus again on Delhi border

The leaders of the organizations leading the farmers who took to the streets against the new agricultural laws do not want their movement to be weakened under any circumstances. Therefore, their strategy is constantly changing. Under this, farmers have now once again made a strategy to focus on Delhi border instead of mahapanchayats. However, Rakesh Tikait, who emerged as a big face in the peasant movement, is focused on mahapanchayats.

The leaders of the farmers who have been camping on the borders of Delhi for nearly 3 months, were engaged in securing the support of the farmers in their favor through mahapanchayats for the last one fortnight. During this period, the number of protesters at the dharna sites located in the border of the national capital decreased. Therefore, now the leaders of the unions are appealing to the farmers to leave the mahapanchayat and return to Delhi-border.

The state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union in Haryana, Gurnam Singh Chaduni said on Friday that the phase of panchayats has started today, there is no need in Punjab and Haryana. He said in a video message, ‘I request all the brothers not to hold any mahapanchayat in Haryana and Punjab and to pay more attention to dharna. Create a system that a certain number of people from each village will stay permanently at the picket site.

On one hand, the leaders of many farmer organizations have devised a strategy to focus on the dharna being given at the border. On the other hand, Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait’s emphasis is on Kisan Mahapanchayats. In this way, differences are visible in the farmers’ organizations regarding the strategy.

Gurnam Singh appealed to the farmers to plan for long-term agitation by organizing organizations in every village and locality and advised the agitators to carry out farming operations in the coming days with mutual support during harvesting.

There are 32 farmers unions of Punjab in the peasant movement. The leaders of the unions said that they have decided to hold a peasant mahapanchayat in Punjab after holding a meeting and have devised a strategy to push the entire force into the peasant movement.

Leader of Punjab’s Kisan Bachao Morcha Kripa Singh told IANS that the focus of all the organizations is that maximum number of protesters should be mobilizing on the Delhi border, so instead of joining the Mahapanchayats, an appeal has been made to reach the border.

Harinder Singh Lakhowal, general secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal), another farmer organization of Punjab, said that in areas where there is a need to spread awareness among farmers about the harm caused by the new agricultural laws, if the mahapanchayat and public meeting are organized There is no problem in doing it, but the farmers of Punjab are already aware of their entitlements, so there is no need for such panchayats there.

Harinder Singh said, ‘On Saturday, there will be a meeting of all 32 farmer organizations of Punjab, in which the strategy will be discussed to keep the movement running for a long time. Now people will come to the picket site, they will remain permanently for a few days.
