In the contempt case of the Supreme Court, standup commissioner Kunal Kamra has submitted an affidavit stating that the tweet he did was not intended to undermine public confidence in the Supreme Court. Kamra said that if he crossed the border, his internet should be turned off.

In the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Kamra said that if the Supreme Court feels that it has crossed the border and wants to shut its internet for eternity, then in such a situation, like Kashmiri friends, on August 15 every year, on Independence Day Will write a post card of wishes.

Kamra said that for any system in a democracy, to think that it is above criticism is just like finding a solution for migrant laborers to go home in lockdown without any scheme. In the Supreme Court, Kunal Kamra said in his reply that any of his criticized tweets would shake the foundation of the Supreme Court, saying that it would be like over-estimating his merit.

Kamra said that the respect people have for Judisiri is due to their own work. Public trust does not end with public criticism. In her affidavit, Kamra said that the public’s trust is due to her work in the institute. I do not have such ability that the foundation of the Supreme Court, the world’s strongest institution, should be shaken by my criticism.

Kamra further said, ‘The court respects people’s trust and in such a situation, it should believe that some of Twitter’s jokes should not form an opinion on the basis of jokes. He said that satire is a presentation of humor. The comedian raises questions related to the matter of public interest in his own style. If powerful people and institutions do not show their ability to bear criticism, then we will be in a country where blacksmiths will be stopped and those who become puppets of others will get preference. ‘

On Supreme Court’s tweet, Kunal Kamra said – I will not apologize, nor will I advocate

The standup commander said that I may disagree with many decisions, but I would welcome smiling. Intolerance is increasing in this country and resentment is considered a fundamental right. The language and style in which I speak, the intention is not to offend. I raise what is relevant in a democracy. The style I use or the language I write is not intended to insult anyone but raise whatever is justified in democracy.

Kamra said that trusting the judiciary does not end with people’s criticism. Kamra did not apologize in the affidavit.
The Supreme Court had on December 18 issued a concept notice against comedian Kunal Kamra and cartoonist Rakshita Taneja on a contempt petition. Both of them are alleged to have made objectionable remarks against the Supreme Court. A bench headed by Supreme Court Justice Ashok Bhushan issued a show cause notice to the duo and asked them to file their reply in six weeks.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Rakshita, said that the foundation of the Supreme Court is very strong and criticism cannot lead to contempt. During this time, the court commented that it is seen that cases of criticism are increasing these days.

On November 12, Attorney General KK Venugopal had given his consent to initiate contempt proceedings against Kunal Kamra for making objectionable remarks against the Supreme Court. Kamra made objectionable remarks against the Supreme Court after the journalist Arnab Goswami was granted bail from the Supreme Court. Attorney General Venugopal had said that the tweet made by Kunal Kamra is highly objectionable and in such a case contempt proceedings can be initiated against Kunal Kamra.
