MG Motor India has launched its new Astor compact SUV in India. The starting (VTi-Tech manual trim) ex-showroom price of MG Astor SUV in the Indian market is Rs 9.78, which goes up to Rs 16.78 lakh on its top end variant (Sharp trim). Level 2 ADAS safety features will be available as optional in its VTi-Tech Sharp CVT and 220 Sharp AT variants. This is the fifth model of the Chinese giant carmaker in the Indian market. It is in a way a petrol powered version of the MG ZS EV. The new MG Astor is the first car from the company to get ADAS functions with AI based personal assistant and Level 2 autonomous tech.
Talking about the power performance of MG Astor SUV, it is available for sale in two engines in the Indian market. Its 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power of 138 bhp at 5600 rpm and a peak torque of 220 Nm at 3600 rpm. Its engine is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. At the same time, its 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit generates maximum power of 108 bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 144 Nm at 6000 rpm. Its engine is mated to an 8-speed CVT gearbox with a manual gearbox.
It has a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It gets a 7-inch instrument cluster, multi-functional steering wheel with chrome inserts, power-adjustable front seats, auto climate control, 360-degree camera view, air purifier, electric parking brake and panoramic sunroof.
For safety, this compact SUV has been given 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts, ESP, TPMS, traction control, hill descent control and 4-disc brakes. The Astor compact SUV comes in 5 exterior colors in the Indian market. These include Spiced Orange, Aurora Silver, Gauge Red, Candy White and Starry Black.
