New Delhi
NBT had recently exposed the fraud of creating passports through fake websites. In the latest development, the Ministry of External Affairs has now filed an FIR against three people of Pune under the IT Act and other sections in the Special Cell. The three named accused have registered several websites in the same name as the official website of the Ministry of External Affairs https://www.passportindia.gov.in/. (www.passportonlineindia.org, www.passportonlineindia.com), through these websites, these people are charging a hefty amount in the name of getting passports. They are also illegally collecting important personal data and papers of the people. Following the complaint of the Ministry of External Affairs, Delhi Police has started action.
According to the police officer, through these websites, many complaints of forgery were being received by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Passport Seva Kendra. In its investigation it was found that registration of these websites has been done very cleverly, clicking on one website opens another domain. Then from there it diverts to another domain. On the website, there is a very real-looking form, which after filling, comes an option to pay. Where the official passport fee is Rs 1500 for citizens of 18 years of age or above, these fake websites charge 3000 or more and even after paying money there is no guarantee that your passport will be applied. Although the Ministry of External Affairs has issued advisory on many such websites on its passport portal, but even then, these websites are still involved in such frauds. Their business of collecting huge amount of money in the name of application and misleading people is going on. None of these fake websites have their office address, sometimes just email ID and some other mobile number.
