A special court in Mumbai on Wednesday accepted the closure report filed by the CBI against gangster Chhota Rajan in a case related to firing in suburban Andheri in 1999. The Central Investigation Agency filed a final report in November last year before Special Judge AT Wankhade in the 21-year-old case.
The CBI had said in its report that no direct or indirect evidence was found against Rajan (62) and other accused in the investigation. According to Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat, the case is related to the firing on Ali Abdul Sattar Sheikh, a shopkeeper in Andheri, allegedly by members of the Chhota Rajan gang.
After the incident, a case was registered against Rajan and others in Andheri police station in the relevant sections. The CBI later took over the investigation of the case. Rajan is facing several criminal cases. He is lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi. He was extradited from Indonesia to India in October 2015.
