- When the controversy increased, the government said, only the Motera Stadium is included in the name change.
- ‘The name of the entire sports complex will still remain in the name of Sardar Patel’
There has been a backlash from the government when the controversy over the name of a stadium in Gujarat was named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Central Government on Wednesday clarified that only the name of the Motera Stadium has been changed while the name of the entire sports complex will remain on Sardar Patel. President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad today. This stadium is named as Narendra Modi Stadium whereas earlier it is known as Motera Stadium.
After this, there were various reactions on social media about the renaming of Motera Stadium. Leaders of the Congress and some other opposition parties accused it and called it an insult to Sardar Patel. When asked about these allegations, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that only the name of Motera Stadium has been changed while the entire sports complex will remain in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Taking a dig at the Congress leaders, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned whether Congress President Sonia Gandhi or her son Rahul Gandhi also praised the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel at Kevadia in Gujarat? Javadekar said that the two leaders have not even visited Kevadiya yet.
Prasad said, ‘I want to say with great responsibility, a tourist destination which is appreciated by the whole world, both the Congress leaders have not visited nor praised it yet. What is left to say after this? ‘
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor tweeted, ‘He might have thought that this stadium was in the name of a home minister who banned his ancestral institution! Or maybe booking in advance to ensure a visit by a head of state like Trump? Or is this the beginning of creating a legacy? ‘
Congress MP Rajiv Satava said, ‘It is a shame to name Motera Cricket Stadium after Sardar Patel in the name of Narendra Modi. It shows how enlightened our Prime Minister has become. It is outrageous and a clear sign of autocratic dictatorship. “Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi shared a statement by Sardar Patel, not referring directly to the stadium,” There is something unique in this soil, where always despite many obstacles Has been the abode of great souls. ‘
