Shyam, Katihar:
Some LIC office workers in the district are on the radar of investigation. Anyone should be surprised to know the matter. An insurance policy in the name of a person who is a citizen of Afghanistan was made in Katihar. It was revealed when the police arrested 5 people, including the accused person.

Man of Kabul and LIC policy of Katihar
In fact, in Katihar recently, the police arrested five Afghan civilians for money laundering. According to sources, Shergul, one of the five Afghan nationals, had a policy number 524052249 of LIC of India. However, the LIC officer claims that LIC’s policy cannot be opened in the name of any foreign national.

But the documents which the sources have provided to the NBT correspondent are flouting this claim. See that exclusive picture of the policy

According to this receipt, Shergul, a citizen of Afghanistan, opened this policy on November 28, 2007 from Katihar. As per the address given in this policy, he is a citizen of Guwahati and the maturity of this LIC is to be in 2027. However, since 2016, this policy is on non-operating mode. The manager of Katihar LIC Main Branch said that if it has happened then it will definitely be investigated.

The culprits will be brought to the end – police
According to a Katihar police official, “This is a very serious matter and we will investigate how LIC offered an insurance policy to a foreign national living illegally?” All those found guilty will not be spared. ‘

According to a police officer, the insurance policy was sold to an Afghan citizen in 2007 on the basis of forged documents. There have been indications that LIC officials including the insurance issuing agent will also be questioned in this matter.

LIC also extracts the policy issuing agent information
Officials of Katihar LIC say that “We are looking for an agent who helped an Afghan citizen to buy an insurance policy without valid documents”. Actually apart from birth certificate, proof of residence and a photograph is required to open an insurance policy with LIC. In such a situation, how did an Afghan citizen succeed in making his policy, this is the big question.

Afghan citizens caught like this
Based on intelligence, on 15 December last year, Katihar police raided a rented house in Chaudhary Mohalla under Katihar Nagar police station. On the same day, five Afghan civilians were arrested here. But an Afghan citizen, including the landlord, is still on the run.

Sources reveal that many times LIC agents are in the race to sell the policy to meet their targets. In such a case, it may be the case that in the course of completing his target, an agent has done wrong. But a big thing in this is that the matter is now not only about policy but also money laundering and security of the country. In such a situation, the police believe that the real things will be revealed only after the agent is found.
