On Thursday, sacked police officer Sachin Wajhe received a major setback from the special NIA court. The special court rejected the bail application filed by Vajhe, arrested in connection with the discovery of an SUV containing explosive material near Antilia and the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran.
The said bail application of Sachin Vajhe was filed for natural bail on the basis of non-filing of chargesheet within the stipulated period. Meanwhile, the court gave one more month to the NIA to file the chargesheet. The court had on June 9 given two months to the NIA to file the chargesheet. The central agency later requested a further extension, saying the investigation was still on.
Wajhe had sought bail on the ground that the investigating agency failed to file the charge sheet within the stipulated time, hence entitled to be released. Vajhe was arrested on 13 March 2021 after Mansukh’s death. Hiran had claimed that the SUV found near Ambani’s South Mumbai-based Antilia on February 25 was stolen from his possession. However, the special NIA court dismissed Wajhe’s plea, saying there was no merit in it.
