The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to over 40 farmers’ organisations, apart from individual leaders including Rakesh Tikait, Darshan Pal and Gurnam Singh. It was issued on the request of Haryana Government. It alleged that they are not engaging in talks with the state panel to resolve the issue of blockade of roads on Delhi’s borders.
Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice M.M. Taking cognizance of the application, a bench of Sundaresh ordered issuance of notice. The bench questioned, “Mr Mehta (Solicitor General Tushar Mehta), you have made about 43 people as parties. How will you send the notice to them?
Mehta said that the leaders of the farmers are necessary parties in this matter. He will ensure that the notice is served to those people. Mehta requested for hearing on the petition on Friday, October 8.
The bench has listed the matter for hearing just after the Dussehra holiday beginning next week.
The Haryana government has requested 43 people, including office bearers of different farmers’ organizations, to be parties in the public interest litigation filed by Noida resident Monika Agarwal. Monika Aggarwal has complained in her petition that the roads are blocked due to the farmers’ protests. This is causing inconvenience to the people in commuting.
