India is in touch with the government of Pakistan for the protection of more than 800 Sikh pilgrims who have gone on a pilgrimage to Pakistan. The visit of these devotees has been affected due to violent demonstrations in some cities of the neighboring country including Lahore. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted, ‘There is a close watch on the activities. Pakistani officials and Sikhs are in contact with the batch. We will try our best to protect the pilgrims and return home safely.
The minister’s response came on a tweet by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chairman Manjinder Singh Sirsa in which he requested Jaishankar to look into the case of Sikh pilgrims stranded in Pakistan.
More than 800 Sikh devotees have gone to Pakistan to attend Baisakhi’s program. Indian pilgrims reached Lahore from the Wagah border on Monday to attend the festival. On Tuesday afternoon, Indian pilgrims left for Gurdwara Panja Sahib in 25 buses in Hassanabad. He was also accompanied by Pakistani police and Rangers.
An official of the Punjab province government in Pakistan said in Lahore, “Sikh pilgrims reached Hasanabadal after 14 hours of travel after four o’clock on Wednesday morning due to road closures during the TLP demonstration, which usually takes three hours to reach . ‘

Indian Sikhs will also visit other holy sites in Punjab during a 10-day stay in Pakistan.
