The Supreme Court has allowed the Indian Institute of Mass Communication to cut down 29 trees for the construction of its new building. The Supreme Court has said that according to the terms of the Central Empowering Committee, IIMC can cut down trees to build its building academic block, guest house and hostel.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde of the Supreme Court in its order stated that the Supreme Court had appointed the CEC and had approved the case and allowed it with certain conditions. The Supreme Court has said that the CEC has recommended to the top court that it has given permission with certain conditions.

Under this, IIMC will have to deposit five per cent of the sensation project cost in the ridge management board fund. The Forest Department of Delhi Government will be able to use this fund. The fund will be used for the conservation and protection of the ridge area. It has also been said that whatever construction will happen will not stop the water coming out of it in any way. The roof of whatever building will be used for solar energy. Rain water will be used for rain water harvesting. The trees which are required to be cut for building construction will be pruned.
