New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) A 29-year-old man who allegedly climbed the Red Fort dome was arrested during the Republic Day violence in Delhi. Police gave this information on Monday. This man named Jaspreet Singh is an associate of Maninder Singh arrested last Tuesday. Maninder is accused of allegedly wielding a sword to “inspire” and “outrage” protesters at this historic monument. Jaspreet Singh, who lives in Swaroop Nagar in North West Delhi, was arrested by the Crime Branch team on Saturday. Thousands of protesters clashed with the police during a tractor parade organized by the farmers’ unions on 26 January demanding the repeal of the three controversial agricultural laws of the Center. Several protesters drove to the Red Fort driving tractors and entered the memorial. During this time some protesters also hoisted a religious flag on the flag of Red Fort. “Jaspreet Singh is the man who stood behind accused Maninder Singh and climbed one of the domes on either side of the ramparts of the Red Fort,” said an official. He said that in one of the photographs he is also seen in an aggressive posture on the Red Fort. ” According to the police, Maninder Singh (30) had “inspired” six people living in the neighborhood to come to the tractor parade coming from Singhu border towards Mukarba Chowk. Police said Jaspreet Singh was an accomplice and was identified with photographs and videos in which he was allegedly seen standing behind Maninder Singh. Police said Maninder Singh, who worked as an AC mechanic of the car, was arrested from Pitampura in northwest Delhi last week. According to the police, Maninder Singh was seen waving two swords at the Red Fort in a video intended to “motivate and incite violent anti-national elements to a brutal attack on policemen on duty.” Police had said that Maninder Singh turned to radicalism after seeing the “inflammatory” Facebook posts of various groups. According to police, he often visited the Singhu border and was “highly inspired” by the speeches made by the leaders there.
