Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal is set to contest elections in West Bengal. On Monday, an RJD delegation met TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee in view of the assembly elections. After the meeting, RJD Principal General Secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui said that the purpose of meeting Banerjee was to defeat communal forces. He clarified that the decision to form a coalition of non-BJP secular parties for the elections in Bengal will be the top leadership of the party.

RJD national general secretary Shyam Rajak was also present with Siddiqui during the meeting with Banerjee. Siddiqui said that there is nothing to share about the talks at this time. He said that this discussion was only to evaluate the current situation and the information related to the talks would be given to the party’s central leadership.

When asked about the talks with the opposition CPM, the RJD leader said, “If they invite us, we will reply as soon as possible.” The RJD had said on Sunday that it would explore the possibility of fielding candidates on the seats bordering the Bengal-Bihar border during the proposed assembly elections in April-May.
