Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut welcomed the proposed draft bill of the Uttar Pradesh government on population control. At the same time, Raut said that if Janata Dal United (JDU) opposes this bill, then BJP should withdraw support to the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar.

According to the draft Population Control Bill, Uttar Pradesh proposes to ban having more than two children from contesting local elections, applying for government jobs and receiving any subsidy. In a weekly column published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, Raut questioned whether the bill was brought with honest intention. Also added that this issue should be beyond caste, religion and politics.

Raut, executive editor of Saamana, wrote, “The issue of Ram temple has been resolved so can’t be asked to vote on this issue now.” It is being said that the purpose of the Population Control Bill is to polarize ahead of the assembly elections in UP next year.

He said that former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have opposed the bill and termed it as “anti-Muslim”. Raut pointed out that the population of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is around 15 crore and most of the people migrate to other states to earn a living.

He said that legal steps should be taken to control the population in these states. He wrote, ‘Yogi Adityanath should be congratulated for this initiative and if Nitish Kumar opposes it then BJP should withdraw support in Bihar.’
