A man stole a luxury car parked in the parking lot of Connaught Place by pretending to be his car. The place where the car was parked was an authorized parking area of NDMC, which is operated by a private agency. Parking attendants are stationed round the clock, the slips of every vehicle entering the parking lot are deducted and the automatic boom barriers at the exit gates are opened only after checking that slip and charging the parking fee in return. Despite this, the car was stolen.
In this case, the negligence of the parking attendants also came to the fore. During investigation, it was found that a person had taken the stolen vehicle as his own. He told the parking attendant that by mistake his parking slip had fallen somewhere. The attendant handed over the car keys to him without verifying his claim. Later, when the original owner of the vehicle reached the parking lot, it was found that the vehicle had been stolen. After that, even the parking attendants lost their senses. On 15th August, when the police are constantly briefing private security guards, parking attendants etc. all over Delhi to keep them alert, the theft of a vehicle like this from Connaught Place was also a big security lapse. This was the reason that the police immediately got active in search of the accused and soon after arresting him and recovered the stolen Creta car.
New Delhi DCP Deepak Yadav said that the accused was identified as Shrestha (22), a resident of Railway Colony of Paharganj. He is doing MBA from a reputed private university in Noida. He wanted to live a life full of luxury and to fulfill his same dream, he had stolen the car. Later, on his behest, the police also recovered the stolen Creta car parked in Doctor Lane located in Paharganj’s Railway Colony.
According to the DCP, on July 28, when the police reached the spot after receiving a PCR call about the theft of the vehicle from the parking lot of Connaught Place, a person named Jitendra, who was present there told the police that he had bought his Creta car with the registration number of Punjab K. Parked in the parking lot of the block, but when he returned after finishing his work, he saw that his car was missing. When he inquired with the parking attendants, it was found that they had handed over the keys of his car to someone else. On August 5, when Shrestha reached the H Block parking lot to steal another car in a similar fashion, the parking attendant immediately informed the policemen posted at the nearby picket. As soon as the police reached there, the accused started running away. Policemen nabbed him with the help of parking attendants.
