On June 15, 2020, a day after Sushant’s death, Sushant’s brother-in-law OP Singh called for a thorough investigation, calling the case suspicious. After this, the Mumbai Police started investigation on the matter from different angles.
After the death of Sushant on social media, the debate of nepotism, insider vs outsider started in Bollywood. In this debate some big names of Bollywood including Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Ekta Kapoor and Aditya Chopra were blamed for the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. After this, demonstrations started across the country to get justice for Sushant Singh Rajput.
His postmortem report was released on 24 June 2020, 10 days after Sushant’s death. It was told in this report that there were no signs of any kind of injury or struggle on Sushant’s body. Therefore, according to this report, the cause of Sushant’s death was said to be suicide by hanging.
After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Riya Chakraborty, who was his girlfriend, finally broke her silence on 14 July 2020 after a full month on social media. She once again expressed her love for Sushant while writing a post on Instagram.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh lodged an FIR against Riya Chakraborty and her family at Rajiv Nagar Police Station, Patna on 29 July 2020. In this complaint, KK Singh accused Riya and her family of abetting Sushant’s suicide, money laundering and cheating. In response to this, Riya Chakraborty filed a petition in the Supreme Court and demanded that the case be transferred to Mumbai.
After reaching Mumbai, Bihar Police started investigating the case of Sushant Singh Rajput from its level. Meanwhile, the Bihar government demanded the transfer of Sushant’s case to the CBI. After this the matter was heard in the Supreme Court, after which it was decided that the investigation of this case will now be done by the CBI.
On 19 August 2020, the CBI registered an FIR against Riya Chakraborty, her father Indrajit Chakraborty, mother Sandhya Chakraborty, brother Sauvik Chakraborty, Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda, manager Shruti Modi and many others as accused. After this the CBI started a long interrogation with all of them.
In the midst of the CBI’s investigation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) started investigating this case from the angle of money laundering. In the investigation of ED, some suspicious chats came out from the mobiles of Riya Chakraborty and some others, in which it came to light about the purchase and use of drugs. The ED handed over all these chats to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). NCB started investigating Sushant Singh Rajput’s case from the angle of drugs.
On 26 August 2020, NCB started investigation by registering a case against Riya Chakraborty and others on the basis of chats received from ED. After this, NCB questioned people related to Sushant, Bollywood celebrities and family members. After many WhatsApp chats surfaced, many Bollywood celebs were believed to be involved in this case and they were questioned for a long time.
On 4 September 2020, a few days after the start of the investigation, NCB took Riya Chakraborty’s brother Shauvik Chakraborty and Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda into custody. After this, the court sent them to judicial custody till September 9. On 8 September 2020, NCB took major action and took Riya Chakraborty into custody after 3 days of long interrogation.
On the basis of alleged suspicious WhatsApp chats, NCB conducted lengthy interrogation of Bollywood big names Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Rakulpreet Singh and recorded their statements. It is believed that all these celebrities were also allegedly involved in the purchase and use of drugs.
While investigating the case of Sushant Singh Rajput, the CBI got Bisra investigated by the Medical Board of AIIMS. On 5 October 2020, the board of AIIMS, filing its report to the CBI, ruled out any possibility of murder and said that Sushant’s death was due to suicide.
Riya Chakraborty was released on bail on 8 October 2020 after being in jail for almost a month. After this, Rhea Chakraborty filed a case against the sisters and family of Sushant Singh Rajput, in which she said that Sushant Singh Rajput, who was suffering from depression, was given medicines on a fake prescription. Riya also said in her report that Sushant was a drug addict and his family knew this.
After a long investigation and questioning, NCB filed its first chargesheet in the court on 5 March 2021. In this chargesheet, a total of 33 people including Riya Chakraborty and her Bai Sauvik were made accused. The NCB has accused all these people of trading and using drugs.
After the arrest and interrogation of several drug peddlers, on 28 May 2021, NCB arrested Siddharth Pithani, who was Sushant Singh Rajput’s flatmate. After NCB’s custody, the court sent Siddharth Pithani to jail. After this, NCB once again questioned Sushant’s house staff Neeraj and Keshav as well as Sushant’s bodyguard.
The CBI has not yet reached any conclusion in the case of Sushant Singh Rajput. The CBI’s charge sheet is being awaited for a long time. The mystery of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death will be solved only on the basis of CBI’s investigation.
