Three soldiers were killed and three others were seriously injured when a truck carrying Army personnel fell into a gorge in East Sikkim on Wednesday. Police has given this information. An official said that the accident took place on New Jawaharlal Nehru Road.

He said that this route connects Gangtok with Somgo Lake and Nathu La near the India-China border. He said that the truck was carrying six soldiers of Kumaon Regiment and was on its way to Gangtok when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell into a 600-feet deep gorge.

Condition of three soldiers critical, sent to Siliguri

The driver and two other jawans died on the spot. The army, BRO, police and local people carried out rescue operations in the inhospitable area amid inclement weather and shifted three injured soldiers to Army Hospital in Gangtok, the official said. From here he has been sent to Siliguri in West Bengal for treatment.
