However, despite this phone call, India did not open its leaf in front of Sri Lanka. It is expected that India will clear its stand on Tuesday morning when it will make its permanent mission in Geneva aware of the government’s final decision. In fact, India itself has been caught in the eyes of the United Nations Human Rights Council on issues such as the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and the arrest of Christian Michel, accused of touting defense deals.

However, on the issue of Sri Lanka, India has the option to abstain from voting, but it is not easy to decide as China, Pakistan and Russia may possibly support Sri Lanka by voting against the proposal. Here, assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu next month. In such a situation, if the Indian government supports Sri Lanka in the UN, then there is a possibility of Tamil voters becoming angry.

Congress veteran P. Chidambaram, coming from Tamil Nadu, appealed to the Indian government to support the resolution against Sri Lanka and said that the issue of human rights abuses should be dealt with strongly with the neighboring country. This will send a message to the Tamils ​​that the Indian government is with them. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin has also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support the proposal.

After all, which road should India choose?
In such a situation, the Government of India is standing at such a point from which it is very difficult to decide the direction ahead. If opposing the proposal and supporting Sri Lanka, then there will be a wrong message among the Tamils ​​and if they support and reprimand Sri Lanka, then they will be afraid of sitting in the lap of China. Anyway, Rajapaksa’s inclination is more towards China.

Pakistan blackmailed Sri Lanka?
The most surprising decision has been taken by Pakistan on this matter. It is being said that he will support Sri Lanka by opposing the proposal. However, the reason is that Sri Lanka has assured him that the burqa will not be banned there. A few days ago, when the Sri Lankan government talked about banning the burqa in the country, Pakistan had said in a threatening manner that this would strengthen the perception that the human rights of minorities are being violated in Sri Lanka. A source, on the condition of not disclosing his identity, said that under these circumstances, the best option for India is to abstain from voting.
