West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had lost from Nandigram in the recently held assembly elections. He was defeated by Suvendu Adhikari, a strong leader who joined BJP from TMC. Mamta challenged her defeat in the High Court. On Thursday, the court adjourned the hearing of the matter till November 15. It is necessary for Mamta to become an MLA within six months of becoming the CM, in such a situation it has now been decided that Mamta will have to win the election from some other seat to continue in the post. Mamta has 2 months 25 days left.
It is worth mentioning that the TMC is repeatedly asking the Election Commission to hold by-elections on the vacant seats. Mamta Banerjee will have to become a member of the Legislative Assembly before November 5 to remain the CM. Trinamool Congress fears that Mamta will have to resign from her post if the by-elections are delayed due to the Corona epidemic.

It is noteworthy that Shobhandev Chattopadhyay of TMC won the election from Bhawanipur, the traditional seat of Mamta. He has left this seat for Mamata Banerjee. Mamta Banerjee has become MLA for this seat twice since 2011. When Suvendu Adhikari left TMC and joined BJP, Mamta had announced to contest from Nandigram. Mamta lost the election by nearly two thousand votes. Mamta has alleged that the administration has declared wrong election results under pressure from the BJP.
