When Rekha said- father never noticed me, was young and then he left life

Rekha, a famous actress of her time, is known for her glamorous looks, excellent acting skills and impetuosity. She was one of the leading actresses of the 70s and 80s. Rekha never hesitated to do challenging roles in her career and tasted success. However, the story of their struggle is such that it is associated with childhood.

In an earlier interview, Rekha talked about her childhood and told how her father never took notice of her. Rekha was born on 10 October 1954 to Tamil and Telugu actors Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli. Rekha’s father Gemini married four times but never lived much with Rekha and her mother. They parted ways when Rekha was young. Rekha’s mother was the sole breadwinner of the house. However, due to financial constraints, Rekha had to drop out of school when she was in 9th standard to work in films.

Mother was intoxicated by father’s love
In an interview with Simi Grewal, Rekha had described her childhood as ‘excellent’. When Simi asked how was her relationship with her parents, Rekha said, “It was a romantic relationship and whatever is full of romance, it is not easy.” Asked what she remembers about her father, the actress said, “I was very young when he left our lives. I can’t even remember the time when he was at home. My mother was intoxicated by my father’s love.’

Rekha said – father never saw me
Rekha had further told that her father had many children and this is the reason why he never noticed her (Rekha). Recalling Rekha said, ‘All the children were in the same school. Sometimes it used to happen that he used to come to drop other kids, so that was his first impression for me. I thought, Oh, it is Appa but never got a chance to meet her. I don’t think they notice me there. He never saw me.
